Garrapata Hills at Night
A nice day of shooting down at Garrapata Beach in Big Sur yielded some potential images and a general sense of well being simply from being around the ocean. As we were packing up in the dark, I looked behind us, and a small misty cloud was starting to appear on the hillside. Lit up by a half moon, the mist was keeping close to the hill and started to dip into the little slope on the left. Don and Dave were both ready to go, and I had already packed up my camera kit, so I hesitantly said, "check out that cloud, maybe?.......... With encouragement from my colleagues, I set up the tripod, grabbed the d810 with the 24-70, set a 20 second exposure, and the first frame was the keeper! The real bonus for this shot was getting the stars to shine, lit up in a cobalt blue sky. So, always take that last shot, and always make sure you are out shooting with other photographers that will push you.
